Project CIVIL - Captioned Instructional Videos to Improve Literacy
Project's Goals, Objectives, Activities, and Participants:
A partnership with the National Captioning Institute was established to investigate the effects of captioned instructional videos for primary school children. The Project implemented a longitudinal study commencing with Grade 1 in the first year and continuing through Grades 2 and 3 in subsequent years. At each grade level, sets of captioned videos were prepared, with all classes at each grade level having its own set of videos. Activities were developed to accompany the videos. Students took one video and a binder with activities home each week.
