“PLACES LOVED” WORKSHOP |

Ann Cheeks has been an “artist” since she was a little girl, creating things on paper, on the sewing machine, and in the kitchen. Her first medium was mud, then pencil and paper. She moved on to fabric and anything else she could get her hands on. She knew that Art School was her only option, so she applied to and was accepted by VCU at age sixteen. After college, Ann worked as a graphic designer (pre-computer) for 12 years with mostly environmental clients such as World Wildlife Fund, American Rivers, the Wilderness Society, and the Land Trust Alliance. Frustrated with the introduction to computers and having two young children at home helped make the decision to stop working easy for Ann. Thankfully, this led her back to her own art. She quickly got into drawing and experimenting with mediums, and developed a technique using fabric, acrylic medium and pastels to create a painting. While at the workshop, Ann will focus on her techniques, using photographs or the natural surroundings of the Meeting Place. She will share her thoughts on creating a sense of a special place. |

| Students may use favorite photos if available, memories, thoughts, color
associations and words will be used to create a work on canvas of a personal
place in your mind. Materials will be provided, but photos of a place or places
that you love along with printed fabric that you associate memories with could
be used - the more the better and they will be very helpful. Ps.You may bring
wine/spirits for the evening. |
